Truck cost per km calculator: what does one kilometre really cost?
Enter what the truck costs you per month and per kilometre. The calculator divides the fixed costs by the kilometres you drive, adds fuel, tyres and maintenance, and shows the price per kilometre you need for your margin.

How the calculation works
- Fixed costs per month = leasing + driver + insurance + registration + overheads + depreciation ((purchase price − residual value) ÷ months).
- Fixed costs per km = fixed costs per month ÷ kilometres per month — the more the truck drives, the cheaper each kilometre.
- Fuel per km = consumption ÷ 100 × diesel price.
- Cost per km = fixed per km + fuel per km + maintenance and tyres per km.
- Minimum price per km = cost per km ÷ (1 − target margin). Tolls are not included: add them per route.

FAQ
What does a truck cost per kilometre?
For a 40-tonne tractor-trailer in Europe usually between €1.00 and €1.60 per km, depending on driver wages, kilometres per month and fuel. Your own figures above give the real number.
Why does the cost per km fall when the truck drives more?
Because most costs are fixed per month: the driver, leasing and insurance cost the same whether the truck drives 8,000 or 12,000 km.
What price per km should I charge?
At least the cost per km plus your margin, on the loaded and the empty kilometres together. The minimum price per km above shows that figure.
